The Connection Between Women’s Hair Status and Aging

The Connection Between Women's Hair Status and Aging
A healthy head of beautiful hair is not just about looking good. Women’s hair status is frequently inherently linked to how we feel about ourselves. People believe that shiny, healthy hair is part of what establishes our sexuality, success and attractiveness.

Of course, this is not totally true and the reality is that when our hair does not look its best, it can affect us in negative ways. Women say they feel less attractive and definitely less confident. Generally, a bad hair day is not a major event (unless you’re meeting new clients), women’s hair loss can cause stress, and it’s not uncommon, especially as we age.

Women’s Hair Loss

There is still the perception that hair loss is something that only affects men. Not only is this inaccurate, it’s simply not true. A recent study by the US Nation Library of Medicine concluded that less than 45% of women retain a full head of hair through life.

Women’s Hair Status and Aging

So why is women’s hair loss so common? There are many reasons why women develop hair loss and thinning hair.

It could be due to a side effect of some medications, menopause, a medical condition such as polycystic ovary syndrome or trichotillomania.

As we age, it’s common for our hair to thin, so even those blessed with a lustrous, thick head of hair throughout life may eventually experience some thinning. Women who have hair loss due to androgenetic alopecia (female pattern hair loss) often notice the condition worsens as they age. In fact, 12% of women develop some form of hair loss by age 29, 25% by age 49, 41% by 69, and over 50% by the age of 79.

Feeling stressed on a regular basis can play a major role in hair loss. But whatever the cause, the results are basically the same. Women often feel less confident, less attractive and unfortunately, often less cheerful.

What Can Be Done About Women’s Hair Loss?

For women who have noticed hair thinning or that it’s not as thick and lustrous as it used to be, or women who are experiencing any level of female hair loss, it’s important to understand two things:

[Firstly] – it’s not uncommon to notice hair thinning as you age and you are not alone.

[Secondly] – there are many solutions available for hair loss and thinning. These range from the more aggressive methods such as laser therapy taking a pill that will certainly have side effects to the non-aggressive methods such as human hair wigs and custom hair systems that look and feel very natural.
