It’s important to know how to maintain your human hair wig. There are big differences between human hair wigs and synthetic hair wigs. For instance, the former is stronger and has a higher resistance to heat.
Human hair wigs also give you the most natural appearance. Even the sheen, texture, color, and bounce of such a wig make others believe it’s your real hair. Additionally, they can be styled just like your natural hair. Given these points, there’s a growing demand for these wigs.
Albeit, we design and make both types of wigs at A Diva’s Hidden Hair Manufacturer. This article is about how to maintain your human hair wig.
How To Maintain A Human Hair Wig
Our wigs are made with 100% human hair. However, because they are wigs, the hair does not receive the necessary nutrients from your body it needs.
According to master wig maker Louticia Grier, when you care about your wig, it can last long. If you maintain your human hair wig properly, you can even get it trimmed, restyled and colored.
If you want your wig to last a couple of years, here are some say tips to care for it.
01. Cleaning Your Wig
For real hair wigs, this means a special type of shampoo and conditioner is required. But don’t be tempted to just use your regular shampoo and conditioner. You have to consider that while this wig is made of real human hair, it’s no longer attached to a scalp. Hence, it no longer receives natural oils and nutrients from the scalp.
Some shampoos and conditioners contain harsh chemicals. Therefore, your wig will become damaged if exposed to these ingredients. So, it’s important to use hair care products specifically made for wigs.
Also, there’s no need to wash your wigs every day. Once every few weeks should do. To wash your wigs, first make sure to detangle the hair using a wide toothed comb or wig comb.
02. Combing Wig Hair
Combing your wig after every use and before washing is essential to keep it from matting. But you have to be careful not to over comb or comb while the wig is still wet. Doing so may cause some strands to fall out.
Additionally, you should also use a wig comb, not a brush. Comb your wig from the bottom, working your way to the top. This way you are better able to detangle the strands without causing damage or pulling out any of the strands.
03. Styling
As we’ve previously mentioned, human hair wigs are better for styling as they are more heat resistant and stronger than synthetic wigs. However, it is not recommended to expose them to too much heat. If you do that, the hairs will become brittle. As much as possible steer clear of intense heat. Avoid putting on too much hair product that can weigh the wig down and cause buildup. And avoid hairstyles that can pull on the hair strands.
If you’re fond of just one particular hairstyle, it would be better to have a synthetic wig with that hairstyle already in place. Synthetic wigs are known to keep their style wash after wash. So they can be easier to care for and may be better suited to your preference.
04. Storing Wigs
For maximum protection and longevity, it is not recommended that you wear your wig to bed. If you choose to do so, make sure to put a protective covering over your wig. This will keep it from tangling as you sleep.
It’s best to store your wig when not in use. Place it on a wig stand so it keeps its shape. Also, cover it so it does not collect dust.
Make sure to keep your wig away from heat, direct sunlight, pets and children. Lastly, do not store your wigs for very long without washing away any styling products.
